Kentucky had a voice in creating the standards.

Kentucky educators and the public provided input into the development of the standards so we, as a state, helped determine what they cover. Kentucky’s constitution calls for the state to establish a system of common schools, and common standards, as adopted by the Kentucky Board of Education, provide an equal opportunity for all students in the state to get a quality education.

The drafting process for the standards included broad input from Kentucky teachers, administrators, higher education officials, education partners, the public, staffs of the three participating agencies (CPE, EPSB and KDE), a national validation committee and national education organizations. The federal government did not direct or even suggest what should be included. In fact, federal law prohibits dictating a national curriculum. Read more details on how they were developed, here.
